Barco Green Roof
Oakland, Pittsburgh, PA
Status: Completed 2016
Building Type: Green Roof Plaza
Area: 11,000 SF
The Barco Law Library roof project involved replacing the outdated concrete slab with a new intensive green roof, incorporating new circulation pathways, an assembly patio, and site lighting.

Previously, the patio featured small concrete benches and planters, which were visually unappealing and contributed to water leakage into the classrooms below due to a failing slab and membrane.

Indovina Associates removed the old concrete slab and membrane, repaired the structural frame, and designed a fully accessible green roof. The new roof includes various green spaces, flagstone pathways, multi-colored stone panels for the patio, high concrete curbing, and site lighting. This upgrade offers versatile uses for the University, including large gatherings, small meetings, and connections with the adjacent sky bridge.
