Dept. of Envir. Protection

New Stanton, PA

Status: Completed 2014

Building Type: Office

Area: 40,000 SF

In New Stanton, PA, Indovina Associates, in collaboration with a developer, designed a new centralized facility for four divisions of the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. This 40,000 square foot, single-story building, located off the I-70 interchange, consolidates operations from various western Pennsylvania sites into one space with naturally lit, open areas for over 100 staff. It includes conference rooms, GIS and file storage, public file review rooms, and a large garage for emergency vehicles.

To meet DEP’s strict regulations, the project incorporated sustainable practices such as a raised floor ventilation system, smart lighting synchronized with daylight, and high-performance glazing with low-E coatings.

The building's exterior features an ironspot manganese brick façade, providing a deep grey-purple hue, paired with weathering Cor-Ten steel rainscreen panels for an earthy look. Black storefront windows and cantilevered painted aluminum sunscreens add texture. Nestled among rolling hills and forests, the building blends seamlessly into its environment while showcasing its commitment to ecological stewardship.
