Congregation Beth Shalom, a key synagogue in Pittsburgh’s Squirrel Hill neighborhood, was originally built in 1918 but suffered significant fire damage in 1996.

The facility, which had developed a disjointed mix of spaces and styles, was restructured to create a cohesive and functional building. During this period of loss, the congregation embraced the opportunity to revamp the facility, blending respect for its history with a forward-looking vision.

Indovina Associates Architects led the redesign, overseeing the replacement of damaged areas, comprehensive renovations, and new additions. This extensive reconstruction provided a unified and modern facility that will serve future generations.

The project has received multiple awards for design, material innovation, and construction excellence.
