Water’s Edge is a one of a kind facility designed to showcase three popular species of marine mam
mals on one site; Polar Bears, Pacific Sea Otters, and Walruses. Varied terrain, a fresh water waterfall, air conditioned “ice cave,” and a stream bottom moat give the animals a variety of habitat conditions and places to explore as well as presenting the animals in a re-creation of their natural surroundings.
There are seventeen viewing opportunities through fifteen acrylic view windows and two underwater tunnels affording multiple views of the three species in a “nose-to-nose” encounter Themed walkways provide education to visitors about these magnificent animals.
Water’s Edge is an environmentally conscious design and is the first Zoo project to seek LEED Silver Certification.
