The aquarium’s visitor experience goes beyond the expected perspective at the waters surface, to a vantage point beneath the waves. The interior spaces convey a sense of being inside the wave, with the waters surface dancing above.
Communing with aquatic creatures within, and learning about their habitats and needs is the primary goal of the building. It houses some 400 species and 4,000 individual specimens. The interior circulation continues past some forty tanks, seven habitats, water falls, flooded forests, and a 28 foot deep Ocean Tank. It courses through Cold Water Galleries, past skylighted Coral Propagation tanks and winding down through a Tropical Forest with slow moving Amazon streams.
